There're not many films around these days that could be described as sheer magic. Nimmermeer is the premiere work of a young German director and it was made when he was still at filmschool.

The simple story revolves around a young boy in an ancient fishing village who must come to terms and start a new life after his father's gone. The storyline is linear, simple and one-dimensional - but everything else is pure magic. No film I've seen in a long time has so beautifully and imaginatively conjured up the spirit of childhood and innocence.

The young director has a firm grasp on actors and locations and supported by great camera work has created a unique and mesmerizing world. So if you're into haunting, dark, fairy-tale like images and Burtonesque atmosphere.

Hercules, written and directed by Luigi Cozzi, is a 1983 Italian adventure film featuring the exploits of the mythological hero Hercules.

The film is an odd retelling of the story of Hercules (Lou Ferrigno) battling the wizard Minos (William Berger), who uses "science" in an attempt to take over the world. Hercules must stop him and rescue his princess love in the process. Part of the adventure finds Hercules battling giant robots brought to life by stop motion animation. The musical score was provided by Pino Donaggio.

Despite not being a critical or box office hit, the film has become something of a cult favorite. A sequel, The Adventures of Hercules, also starring Ferrigno and written and directed by Cozzi, was released in 1985.

Hercules is a masterpiece of b-grade (well, maybe c-grade) cinematography, standing proudly next to Ed Wood's "Plan Nine From Outer Space" and his other brilliantly stupid stuff. Of course, it is not a movie for mainstream, as well as it is not a movie for people without well-developed sense for humor. To enjoy it, you must drop your seriousness, be open-minded and remember that this is a comedy. It doesn't matter that the author didn't meant it as a comedy, far from it, it makes it even more funny. Every single second of the movie is pure dadaism, complete negation, comparable to Monthy Python's works. It makes you ask all the time: "Why??? Why is are the ancients monsters fighting with Hercules robots (and using laser)? Why does Zeus look like submissive Santa Clause? Why does Hercules, after every fight, take his dead enemy and throw him into space? Why is the main evil-guy speaking about "the come of the mighty phoenix" when there never appears anything like that? And was the scene with bear meant seriously???" The stunning idiocy of the author and incredibly bad performance of all the actors are making this movie simply fascinating.

Boy, do I strongly disagree with the other commentators on this movie! This is a terrific example of a film that is so over the top, so loaded with wacky ideas, so determinedly wrong, that it is thoroughly entertaining. The outrageous dialog, deadpan or hammy acting and glowing tinker toy special effects alone make it worth watching; add outlandish costumes, a story that makes no sense, and references to (one might uncharitably say rip-offs of) everything from "King Kong" to "Star Wars", and how can you lose? When I watch a sword and sandal movie, I want beautiful babes, a musclebound hero, and monsters: "The Adventures of Hercules" has all of this and so much more! Lou Ferrigno may not be Steve Reeves or Gordon Scott, but as Hercules, he's vastly preferable to Kevin Sorbo.
