Opera (1987)

Opera (1987)
Genre: Giallo
Country: Italy | Director: Dario Argento
Language: Italian | Subtitles: English (idx/sub files)
Aspect ratio: Cinemascope 2.35:1 | Length: 102mn
Dvdrip Xvid Avi - 640x272 - 25fps - 700mb
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093677/

A young opera singer (Betty) gets her big chance when the previous star of a production of Verdi's Macbeth is run over by a car. Convinced the opera is bad luck she accepts, and becomes the target (in Argento's unmistakable style) of a psychopath - a man she has been dreaming of since childhood.

Italian horror master Argento's Opera is loosely based on The Phantom of the Opera. It's set in the 'Teatro Regio' in Parma, Italy, during the performance of Verdi's Macbeth. The opera is known to bring bad luck and the production of the film was indeed plagued by misfortunes, such as the death of Argento's father, while he was filming. The director returns here to the 'giallo' genre, after his so called 'supernatural years', during which he presented us with masterpieces such as Deep Red, Suspiria and Phenomena. The lead role is played by the Spanish newcomer Christina Marsillach, who Argento defined the hardest actress he ever had to direct.

The score was composed by Brian Eno and Claudio Simonetti, the latter being a regular contributor to Dario's films, and the heavy-metal music, which normally accompanies the murders in his movies, is one of the features that gained him heavy acclaim, and one of the reasons why his films have reached the status of cult. Probably, Opera is Dario Argento's last masterpiece, the following films to date revealing a mere shadow of his former glory, though still being high quality productions.

Argento is known for his cinematic flair, and we are not disappointed here; scenes beautifully composed, violent murders, accentuated here by the element of voyeurism, and some shots that will remain in the memory of the viewer, such as the key-hole murder shot. However, although Argento claimed that every shot and camera point of view were justified by a certain logic, we can't help suspecting that some of the visual choices in Opera are simply dictated by bravado. Nonetheless, the results are amazingly beautiful and proportioned, and the viewer will not be let down. Just think, doesn't it titillate you to watch bloody murders being committed right in front of you, while you are tied and have needles taped under your eyes, so you must watch? Yes, I thought so...

Someone is killing off the female leads of the movie production "Bad Girls from Mars." The producers feel they should try to finish the film, even though they're making a lucrative amount from insurance payoffs, so they fly in European sex bomb Emanuelle as the new lead. Emanuelle immediately begins embarrassing the producers by leading a wild party life around town. Meanwhile the killings continue, and detectives try to stop the fiend responsible.

Spoofs of films only work a small percentage of the time. Very often the spoof is too much like the film it is trying to spoof. "Mars Attacks" is a good example of this problem. "Bad Girls from Mars" is a low budget spoof of the making of a low-budget campy film, and surprisingly it works.

Everything is hokey, but it is all making fun of the genre. It is sprinkled with some dialog gems. Academy award material it ain't, but if you put yourself in the right mood, it is a lot of fun.

K3 Prison of Hell (2009)

Title: K3: Prison of Hell
AKA: -
Year: 1957
Original title: K3: Prison of Hell

Country: Germany
Language: German
Subtitles: English (hardsub)
Genre: Action | Thriller | Adult | Sexploitation

Director: Andreas Bethmann

Cast

Andreas Bethmann
Bianca-Germany
Thomas Goldmann
Jana Lastovichova
Anna Sochorova

Suzi-Anne

Plot / Synopsis

Prison of Hell follows three girls who attempt to escape an island-based prison complex known as K3. One girl is the plaything of the female Head Warden; who uses her for hew own twisted lesbian kicks. The other is a defiant young inmate who the prison doctor and Sub Warden use to star in porn films. Our final Dillinger is the prison therapist, Jennifer (star of the Knastjulen films). She is fed up with the atrocities being committed by the staff, like fisting a virgin prisoner and the doctor giving vaccinations via blowjobs. The amateur film makers leave their star in the woods to be eaten by the animals; only she escapes. At the same time, the Warden's girlfriend makes a break for it too; and, you guessed it, Jennifer fleas as well. With the three girls unknowingly in the woods with each other, the staff believe this was a coordinated event. When one is captured, they torture her for information she doesn't know, resulting in 30 minutes of the most realistic violence ever put on film! Bethmann stars as the doctor, and he's a slime bag extraordinaire. The warden and Sub Warden are pretty vile, but Bethmann steals the show as Dr. Bertucci (an alias he used to direct hardcore films for years). Only Jenifer and the prison staff are returning actors, and the fresh faces are nice to see; because most of his stars are very, very grungy looking. With the first hour or so being almost entirely hardcore (with some "Asian inspired" torture thrown in to boot), that might put most people off. Fear not, because the last half hour is nonstop violence. The effects are done by SFX maestro Olaf Ittenbach, and the prolonged torture scene at the end (dished out by "Pete-Scissor-Hands" ) is one of the most realistic things I have ever seen! You can actually see the tension build on the flesh before the blade goes in; and the actress shamelessly pisses herself in graphic detail. This is 100% pure exploitation gold, and if you don't like hardcore too much, but love gore; see this! The last half hour is worth the price alone; and this is easily my favorite Bethmann film.

Sex In The Comics (1973) Eric von Letch

Sex in the Comics (1973) DVDRIP
Genre:
Adult
Director: Eric von Letch / Country: Italy
Aspect ratio: 1.37:1 / Color / 87 mns
Language: English / Subtitles: none
File: avi / Xvid / 699 mo

When most people think of "porn," they don't get images of semi-surreal drawn sets, people with weird looking face makeup and face puddy on attempting to portray comic book characters, or montages of WWI and WWII stock footage. Most people wouldn't think of Sex In The Comics when they think of porn. However, this bizarre little 70s oddity which is now all but lost was billed as porn, sold as porn, and viewed as porn. A shame, for if its makers had promoted the film correctly, it could have been a cult hit.
The premise is simple: a woman goes to interview a famous cartoonist about his work, but instead he gives her a history lesson on Tijuana Bibles (satirical dirty comic books). We then see around 20 of these comics acted out.

Although the premise might make this film sound like ordinary 70s sleaze (and I'll make no assertion that this film's storyline is super creative), the execution is like nothing I've ever seen before. For one, the entire film takes in a whole slew or (purposefully) tacky drawn sets, which are intended to mimic the frequently primitive artwork of the comics they are based off of. Furthermore, the entire cast (well, only the males) wear strange looking face masks throughout the film, again so that they more resemble the comic characters they're based off of. Again, this might not sound all that odd for anyone whose seen the work of "Rinse Dream" but still, the ambiance of the scenes truly do give the film a very unique feel.
The dialog is also written to mimic the style of writing which the original comics used, and as a result, the very dated humor frequently falls flat. Additionally, the film almost feels like it was designed for 5 year olds based on the caliber of the humor.
